While the body was being taken for a post-mortem, angry protesters blocked the Gorakhpur-Lucknow highway at the Bhiti Rawat intersection. They demanded the arrest of the murderers and compensation. Police managed to persuade the protesters to disperse but they resumed their protest that evening. Late last night, following a complaint from the deceased’s mother Shakuntala, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the murder section against a father, son and daughter from the village. All three have been taken into custody. The motive for the murder is believed to be a love affair.
Vishal Yadav, son of Shriprakash Yadav, was a carpenter. He had returned home from Mumbai a month and a half ago after his father’s passing. On Tuesday night, he received a call from a girl on his mobile phone. He left the house, promising to return in five minutes but never did. Villagers reported that while taking a morning walk, he discovered a dead body in a wheat field. This prompted the police to be informed. Upon arrival, the police conducted an investigation and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Upon discovery, the forensic team found signs of a struggle in the field and a red handkerchief and slippers on the road. Police also seized the deceased’s mobile phone and bike keys from his pocket. They’ve detained a young woman and two of her relatives for questioning in connection with the case.
The young man’s body has been sent for post-mortem and police are investigating all angles. A call received that night has provided some clues and the incident will likely be solved based on the evidence. - Rajkaran Nair, SSP
