The investigation into the Scorpio overturn in Gauri Bazaar, Deoria, which resulted in two deaths including a young woman from Siwan, Bihar, has yielded no concrete results. Two days after the accident, the police’s most pressing question remains whether the Scorpio occupants were connected to animal smugglers. While no direct evidence of this link has been found, a detained animal smuggler was presented in court on Sunday and sentenced to jail. During interrogation, he revealed the names of three accomplices currently being sought.
In Gorakhpur, sources reported that Dinesh Kumar, an animal smuggler arrested by the Chauri Chaura police, disclosed the names of three associates. Police are now searching for these accomplices in possible hideouts. However, based on the investigation and available information, no direct link or coordination between the Scorpio occupants and this smuggling network has been established. The Chauri Chaura police filed a case on Saturday night in connection with an encounter with animal smugglers in a pickup near Futhawa Inar on Friday night.
It is alleged that during the siege, the smugglers damaged police and SOG vehicles by ramming them. One smuggler, Dinesh Kumar, attempted to escape but was pursued and apprehended by the police. The remaining smugglers managed to break through the Majhne Nala police barrier and ram a Chauri Chaura police jeep before fleeing. Dinesh Kumar, the arrested smuggler, is a resident of Jungle Un Sarai village in the Khalilabad police station area of Sant Kabir Nagar district.
A case will be filed.
During interrogation, he revealed that Ajay alias Mangru, a resident of Devaurveer village in Gagaha; Sanjay, a resident of Kasihar village in Belipar; Chandan, a resident of Bagauli village in Sant Kabir Nagar; and two other unnamed associates were in the pickup at the time of the incident. Based on this information, Chauri Chaura police have filed a case against the smugglers for attempted murder and obstruction of government work.
Further action will be based on technical evidence. Police officials say the Gauri Bazaar accident and the Chauri Chaura incident are being investigated separately. Currently, no direct link between the Scorpio occupants and the cattle smugglers has been established. Consequently, the investigation is now concentrating on technical evidence, call detail records and movement analysis. The situation will become clearer once all aspects are examined. Until then many questions about the Gauri Bazaar accident remain unanswered.
